At Summer Game Fest 2023, CD Projekt RED finally unveiled the Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, the biggest the company has ever made.
In Phantom Liberty, V will change from a mercenary for hire into a secret agent working for the government. Rosalind Myers, the President of the New United States of America, had its orbital shuttle shot down over Night City’s deadliest district of Dogtown, and V is the only one who can help her.
Granted, V will get a helping hand from Songbird, an accomplished netrunner and President Myers’ right hand, or Solomon Reed, a veteran agent played by Idris Elba. Whether you choose Songbird or Reed, V’s old ‘friend’ Johnny Silverhand, played by the returning Keanu Reeves, will always be there for emotional support.
Being a spy thriller type of story, Phantom Liberty’s plot will make it hard to understand who V should trust. But V will have to pick anyway, and the choices made will lead to different endings.
As previously announced, Phantom Liberty will also add a brand new district to Cyberpunk 2077, Dogtown. According to the developers, it is built to feel like an ecosystem that runs and exists outside of the rest of Night City’s established order. When you enter Dogtown, you’re supposed to feel like you’re stepping foot into a world you don’t necessarily belong in or are familiar with.
As you free-roam and engage with main and side quests, you’ll find more variety and choices (minor and major), and you’ll have more at your disposal when building your character. You’ll also find new weapons and vehicles, plus new open-world activities with their own permutations — airdrops and courier missions – that are rooted in Dogtown’s gritty facade.
Phantom Liberty also introduces a new Relic skill tree, which offers a spread of new abilities and can be tailored to different playstyles — from stealth-focused builds to crit-heavy gunslingers, cyberware masters, and more. It’s all about maximizing your playstyle, experimenting with different builds, and finding new ways to play. Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty will be released on September 26th and can now be pre-ordered at $29.99 (as per the leaked price) on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
