Discord has opened up its Discord Activities feature to all developers enabling them to create and launch games, music experiences and other interactive entertainment on the messaging platform.
The company has opened up new monetisation features for developers in the US, UK and EU on desktop, including in-app purchases and subscriptions.
Activities developers can also now use existing premier app monetisation features including Durable SKUs, Consumable SKUs and analytics tools. It aims to open up the feature set to more regions soon.
When it comes to discoverability, Discord said it is offering “native rich presence features” to help their Activity to be discovered organically through server member lists and user profiles. Users can also find Activities in the App Launcher.
App expansion
Discord said the developer preview of its Embedded App SDK saw tens of thousands of creators take part to build content for its platform. Activities already available on the platform include Death by AI, Krunker Strike FRVR, and Farm Merge Valley.
“As we set out to build the Embedded App SDK, we started to reimagine how friend groups might hang out together when they had easy access to lightweight and highly engaging games that were a click away from anywhere within Discord,” said Discord’s VP of product Ben Shanken.
“Developers can leverage our naturally social communities to let already engaged players connect, play, and build relationships. True social gaming isn’t just about playing with friends; it’s about finding new ones too — and we make both possible.”
