In addition to starring in the upcoming Space Jam sequel, actor Don Cheadle will also play the crucial role of narrator in the upcoming The Wonder Years reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Just as in the original series, Cheadle will play the adult version of the show’s lead character–which in this new version will be named Dean, who belongs to a Black family in Montgomery, Alabama in 1968.
Recently, Deadline reported that kid actors Milan Ray, Julian Lerner, and Amari O’Neil also joined the cast. Ray will play Keisa Clemmons, “the apple of Dean’s eye… she’s confident, smart, self-possessed, and is not afraid to speak her mind and doesn’t take any guff from anyone. Lerner and O’Neil will play Dean’s friends. Dulé Hill and Saycon Sengbloh will star as Dean’s parents, and Laura Kariuki as his older sister.
Earlier this month, it was also announced that Elisha “EJ” Williams will play Dean, the counterpart to Fred Savage’s Kevin Arnold. Check out a clip of Savage passing the torch in a video released by ABC below.
Co-created by Lee Daniels (Empire) and written by Saladin K. Patterson (Dave, The Bernie Mac Show), the reboot will also feature Savage directing the pilot.
