Over the years, you may have posted lots of updates, photos, and videos on Facebook. If you want to collect all these posts so you can easily find them or even reuse them on other sites and services, you can.
Facebook now allows you to transfer a copy of your posts to Google Docs, Blogger, and WordPress. You might use Google Docs if you just need to store the posts for safe-keeping or you want to use any of them in a document. You can turn to Blogger or WordPress if you plan to use some of the content in your posts for a blog or website.
One limitation here is that the transfer option didn’t work for me in Firefox. Instead, you may have to use Chrome or Edge for this process. For a more in-depth understanding of this feature, check out Facebook’s help page. Now, let’s see how it plays out.
Transfer to Google Docs
To transfer your posts to Google Docs, you need a Google Account. Open Facebook and click the down arrow in the upper-right corner. Go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information and click Transfer a Copy of Your Information.
Among the different types of content, choose the option to transfer posts. You can also choose whether you want to transfer all posts or only those within certain dates. If you chose Posts, pick Google Docs as the destination, then click Next.
You are then prompted to sign into your Google account. Click Allow when asked to grant Facebook permission to see, edit, create, and delete the specific Google Drive files used with this app. Do the same for the next prompt. Confirm your choices and select Allow to grant all the necessary permissions.
Back at Facebook, click the Confirm Transfer button. Facebook then tells you that your posts are being transferred and may take some time. Leave the Facebook page open in the background as it will continue to transfer the information.
You will receive an email alerting you of the transfer request and another notifying you when it is finished. A notification will also pop up on your Facebook page telling you your data transfer is complete.
Now sign into Google Drive and you should see a folder under My Drive called Transferred Docs with the year, date, and time of the transfer. Click the arrow next to My Drive on the left-hand toolbar click the arrow next to the Transferred Docs folder to see all the subfolders with specific content by posted date.
Click a specific subfolder to see the photo, video, or other content inside. Double-click a displayed photo, video, or other item to see it full screen. Return to the previous screen to access all the folders again.
Now, maybe you want to add certain photos from your Facebook collection into a document. Open a document in Google Docs and prepare an area where you want to insert a photo from one of your Facebook posts.
Click Insert > Image > Drive, and the photos that you transferred from your Facebook posts should be accessible from the Recent section of Google Drive. Otherwise, click My Drive and open the Transferred Docs folder. Find the photo you want to insert and double-click it. You can then crop, adjust, and modify the image as needed.
Transfer to Blogger
To transfer your posts to Blogger, open Facebook and go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information, then click Transfer a Copy of Your Information. Choose Posts, then select whether you want to transfer all posts or only those within certain dates.
One limitation with the transfer to Blogger is that it supports only 100 posts. If you don’t specify a date range, then the transfer will pick your 100 most recent posts. To control this, choose a specific date range that you believe contains no more than 100 posts. Make Blogger the destination, then click Next.
Sign into your Google account and click Allow to give Facebook access to your Blogger account. Back at Facebook, click the Choose blog drop-down menu and select the blog to which you want to transfer your posts. Click Confirm Transfer.
An email confirms the transfer request. Another email alerts you when the transfer is complete. Your Facebook page also shows the transfer as completed.
Sign into your Blogger account. Your blog posts page should list all the Facebook posts that were transferred. Maybe you want to publish a specific post after some modifications.
Click a specific post to view it. By default, the post appears in HTML view. Click the pencil icon at the left end of the toolbar and select Compose view to look at it in WYSIWYG mode. You can now edit the post to make any changes.
When done, click Preview to preview the changes or click Publish to send it out to the world. Back at the blog post view, click the View button to see your new blog post.
Transfer to WordPress
To transfer your posts to WordPress, you not only need a WordPress account but an active domain and website that you’ve created via WordPress.com. Normally, WordPress.com requires a paid account, but you can use a free account with certain limitations.
Open Facebook and go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information, then click Transfer a Copy of Your Information. Click Posts, then choose whether you want to transfer all posts or only those within certain dates. Pick the destination and select WordPress/JetPack, then click Next.
Sign into your WordPress.com account, then click the Confirm Transfer button back at Facebook.
An email confirms the transfer request. Another email alerts you when the transfer is complete. Your Facebook page also shows the transfer as completed.
Now you can sign into your WordPress account. At the Dashboard page, click Media. You should see all the transferred photos and other items from Facebook.
To add an image or other item from one of your Facebook posts into a WordPress site, run the command to insert an image. For the location, choose Media Library.
Select the image you want to insert and then click the Insert button. The image is inserted into your site or post where you can now adjust and modify it.
