Dream Games has officially launched Royal Kingdom, its first spin-off to the multi-billion hit match-3 mobile game Royal Match.
Today’s global release has arrived after 19 months in soft launch and $21.2 million in gross player spending, according to AppMagic estimates. Among Royal Kingdom’s soft launch territories, the UK proved the most lucrative, contributing $15.8 million of that sum.
A match-3 king
Royal Kingdom is building on the highly successful Royal Match mobile game as a match-3 sequel introducing more puzzles, kingdoms and characters to the IP. Those new characters include Princess Bella, the Wizard and King Richard, younger brother to Royal Match’s King Robert.
Players are expected to solve match-3 puzzles as they build kingdoms, open new districts and defend the land from the Dark King’s evil forces.
The concept has already netted significant revenue during Royal Kingdom’s soft launch with the UK, Canada and Australia being its biggest pre-release audiences. Player spending has only increased as the puzzle game’s come closer to full release.
From $108,000 in its first month of soft launch – back in April 2023 – Royal Kingdom hit new heights in October 2024 with $1.9 million in player spending.
And though November is not yet complete, weekly spending has also continued to rise this month with a peak of $511,000 between November 11th and 17th.
Yet those are small numbers compared to Royal Match’s current earnings – $177.1 million in October and $39.4 million the week of November 11th.
Royal Match has had over three years to solidify itself as a titan of the puzzle genre, breaking records and usurping King’s Candy Crush for the match-3 crown last year.
It’s also had a US-based audience to monetise, making 55% of its $3.9 billion lifetime revenue from this market.
Royal Kingdom hasn’t been available in the US until today’s full launch. Whether or not today marks the first major step on its own journey to $1 billion or more, it’s clear to see why Dream Games’ earned its position in our Top 50 Mobile Game Makers list.
