Building a desktop PC requires purchasing thermal paste, but there’s always more than is required in each tube. That’s great if you’re doing multiple builds, but quite wasteful if you’re not. Streacom has come up with a solution, though.
Streacom is best known for its beautiful active and passively-cooled PC cases, but it also ships thermal paste with those cases as a key accessory. In a recent “We Miss Computex Edition” news update, the company introduced its new TX13 high-performance thermal paste, but also took the opportunity to reduce the waste caused from buying and using it.
Rather than shipping TX13 in a tube, Streacom opted for coated foil sachets, each of which contains the “recommended, tried and tested ‘pea sized’ amount of thermal paste (0.25g) providing full coverage of a standard desktop CPU IHS (~40*40mm).” There’s also no plastic spreader as in most applications it isn’t required, and the sachets are shipped in a recycled card envelope.
The end result is a package that’s much easier to recycle the materials from and no wasted thermal paste, or at least, nowhere near as much wasted assuming your build goes well. Streacom claims TX13 “delivers market-leading performance” with a conductivity of 13.4W/m-k and a working temperature range of -30 to 180 degrees Celsius.
Streacom also made a commitment to reduce the company’s impact on the environment, which includes reducing packaging waste across all its products and will involve “avoiding full-color print, eliminating plastic handles, switching from EVA to EPE and generally reducing the elements that are not essential in ensuring the product arrives in good condition and is easy to use.” It’s also partnering with the Eden Reforestation Projects to donate trees for every product sold.
