As part of its early Prime Big Deal Days offers, Amazon is offering nice discounts on the new Lord of the Rings Collector’s Editions, which were published on September 17. These gorgeous new hardcover editions were already affordably priced from the start at $35 each, but now you can save $20 overall when buying all three volumes: The Fellowship of the Ring ($26.49), The Two Towers ($26.50), and The Return of the King ($32). To complete your set, you’ll want to check out the matching editions of The Hobbit ($28) and The Silmarillion ($24.50), both of which are discounted to great prices, too.
For Lord of the Rings fans, the new Collector’s Edition series offers a budget-friendly way to get collectible, display-worthy versions J.R.R. Tolkien’s best-known works. All five hardcover books have foil-stamped covers, ribbon bookmarks, stained edges, and a map of Middle-earth on the inside cover. The elegant cover art and overall design had previously been used for a set published in the UK, but Tolkien fans in the US no longer need to import them. If you’re buying these as a gift for a Lord of the Rings fan, you’ll also want to consider The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Edition Box Set, which collects all three volumes and an exclusive fold-out map in a display case.
If you’d rather have a single-volume edition of The Lord of the Rings, a 1,216-page Deluxe Edition is part of Amazon’s early Prime Day deals. The cover of this hardcover edition feels like suede, and the discount drops the price to $19.77, which is 50% off list price.
Check out all five Lord of the Rings Collector’s Editions as well as the beautiful and very expensive new Deluxe Illustrated Box Set. Speaking of expensive, The Lord of the Rings 4K Steelbook Collection re-released a couple months back and promptly sold out. If you really want it, a well-reviewed third-party seller has it for $250, and your order will ship from Amazon. You can get a matching 4K steelbook collection of The Hobbit Trilogy for $230, or bundle LOTR and The Hobbit steelbook collections together for $450 (seriously).

The Silmarillion is the best-known book by Tolkien about Middle-earth that’s not part of The Lord of the Rings trilogy or named The Hobbit. It provides important background history on the First Age of Middle-earth, known as the Elder Days. It was compiled by Tolkien’s son, Christopher, after death. The Silmarillion Collector’s Edition released alongside The Hobbit last month and is the cheapest of the bunch right now at $24.50.
The Silmarillion is one of the 12 volumes in exhaustive History of Middle-earth series. The series, which was compiled by Christopher Tolkien, received new very pretty hardcover editions this year. The History of Middle-earth is compiled in four box sets with three volumes each, the last of which was published earlier this month. The first two sets are on sale for massive discounts–The Silmarillion is included in the first box set.

If you know you want all three volumes of the trilogy and are willing to wait, you can preorder The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Edition Box Set. Releasing November 5, the new box set is on sale for $94.50, down from $105. It comes with a display box to store the books and a fold-out map of Middle-earth. The set currently costs about $10 more than buying all three individually, but the map and display box look nice. If you’re looking for a holiday gift for the Tolkien fan in your life, The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Edition Box Set is a lovely option.
$292.50 (was $325) | Releases October 1
The new collector’s editions offer a budget-friendly way to get beautiful editions of The Lord of the Rings. On October 1, a new box set will take the opposite approach.
The Lord of the Rings Deluxe Illustrated Box Set costs a staggering $292.50–and that’s with a 10% discount off list price ($325). Not to be confused with the series of Tolkien Illustrated Editions–which we’ll link to below–this box set is a remastered version of the 1992 hardcover edition featuring artist Alan Lee’s iconic artwork of Middle-earth.
The new set includes over 50 new paintings and drawings. It’s split into three volumes, one for each novel in the trilogy, and has a page count of 1,332. The hardcovers are made from cloth and leather and are adorned with silver typescript and stamped emblems. It also comes with a decorative slipcase, three art cards, and two fold-out maps drawn by Christopher Tolkien.
Tolkien’s Illustrated Editions feature drawings by the author. They are available in both standard and deluxe edition hardcovers. All of them are discounted at Amazon, including the deluxe version of The Hobbit, which releases October 22
$112.50 (was $125)
The Lord of the Rings Collector’s Editions released alongside the first-ever publication of Tolkien’s collected poems. This massive 1,728-page, three-book set contains work written across seven decades. Tolkien had a lifelong love of poetry, and he initially aspired to be a poet, not a fantasy novelist.
All told, there are 200 poems in the box set, some of which center on Middle-earth. Over 60 of these poems had never been published until now, so this is a rare opportunity to read previously unseen writing by Tolkien. The poems are accompanied by commentary from two leading Tolkien scholars about the poems and the author’s life.
The hardcover box set is available for a 10% discount at Amazon.
