Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite will soon return to iOS devices in the EU, while The Epic Games Store is set to arrive on Andriod worldwide and iOS in the EU.
The store offers favourable terms for developers as it comes with a 12% fee for payments processed by Epic and 0% on third-party payments.
Epic also shared that all of its games will be leaving the Samsung Galaxy Store in protest of Samsung’s anticompetitive decision to block side-loading by default on its Android devices.
Fortnite on alternative stores
Epic has shared that its mobile games will be available on AltStore for iOS in the EU and plans to support at least two other third-party stores soon.
“We’ve announced our new strategy for bringing Epic’s games to mobile stores: not only the soon-to-launch Epic Games Store for mobile but also other independent mobile stores that give all developers a fair deal, including AltStore.io,” wrote Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney in an X (formerly Twitter) post.
Sweeney adds: “Sadly, Fortnite and our other games will be leaving the Samsung Galaxy Store in protest of their new policy of blocking side-loading. This change obstructs users from installing competing stores and is an issue we fought and won in the US Epic v Google US antitrust trial.”
Epic has been advocating for fair competition for app stores on iOS and Android and has been making progress globally through Europe’s DMA, a victory in the Epic v Google litigation in the US, and Apple’s acceptance of the Epic App Store submission earlier this month.
