Fortnite maker Epic Games paid $352 million to creators in 2024, up 11% when measuring March-December periods of 2023 to 2024.
That’s according to the company’s ‘Fortnite Ecosystem Year in Review 2024’ which shows that players spent 5.23 billion hours playing games made by creators last year, representing 36.5% of total Fortnite playtime.
The firm said the numbers mark a 5% increase from the 4.98bn hours in 2023. Epic also said 58 creators earned over $1m through projects they created using its toolsets.
Creator payouts increased as the number of creators tripled from 24,000 to 70,000 in 2024, with nearly 200,000 user-created islands developed during the year.
Looking ahead
In 2024, popular franchises like The LEGO Group, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Fall Guys joined UEFN and Fortnite Creative, allowing creators to build commercial games and experiences using official assets.
In 2025, Epic said it will introduce new “possibilities” like bringing Scene Graph into Beta, adding custom items, and launching new tools to help players build more complex games using UEFN.
“We know we have more improvements to make to UEFN and the creator experience,” Epic said in a statement. “We’re committed to increasing stability, improving interaction times during development, giving creators insights and tools to sustain and grow a player base after launch.
Epic said it will unveil new features in detail at Unreal Fest in Orlando later this year from June 2nd to 5th.
