Facebook is launching new COVID-19 vaccine profile frames in hopes of encouraging more people to get the jab.
Developed in collaboration with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the new frames let you share support for the vaccinations and see who else has received theirs.
Keep an eye out for a News Feed summary of people you follow who are using the profile frames—including author, columnist, and businesswoman Arianna Huffington, one of the many public figures Facebook has partnered with to spread the word.
“Research shows that social norms can have a major impact on people’s attitudes and behaviors when it comes to their health,” according to a company blog announcement. “We know people are more likely to get a vaccine when they see many people they trust are doing it.”
Facebook recently introduced a similar campaign in the UK, where folks can add a National Health Service (NHS) rainbow frame reading “I’ve had my vaccine” or “I’ll get my vaccine.” In the few weeks since its launch, a quarter of Facebook users have seen a friend or family member use the NHS COVID-19 profile frame according to the social network.
“By working closely with national and global health authorities and using our scale to reach people quickly,” the blog said, “we’re doing our part to help people get credible information, get vaccinated, and encourage others to do the same so we can come back together safely.”
Profile pictures aren’t the only thing getting an update. The social network this week unveiled new features that let users manage what they share and what they see in the News Feed. Adjust your commenting audience, view your favorites, and get more context around suggested posts.
