A team of former Supercell developers have raised €17 million ($18m) in an investment round for their studio Bit Odd.
The team was founded in 2019 by former Clash of Clans game lead and art director Lasse Louhento as CEO and ex-Clash universe developer Jani Lintunen.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the studio is currently working on a free-to-play multiplayer action game for mobile with plans to launch it early next year.
The funding round was led by Griffin Gaming Partners with participation from Makers Fund, Index Ventures and others. Bid Odd previously raised €5m back in 2022, with investors at the time included Index Ventures and Heracles Capital.
A new approach?
In a press release, the studio said it was on a mission to “create games that attract players through emotion and innovation rather than just conforming to traditional metrics”.
Bit Odd’s first game is said to be an “immersive experience intended to inspire players in ways that traditional approaches have overlooked”.
“We started Bit Odd because we felt something was missing in gaming today,” said Bit Odd co-founder Lasse Louhento.
“The mobile gaming surge has been incredible, but it has also steered many studios toward finance-first thinking – over-relying on metrics and following the competition. Our approach is a bit different. We focus on designing games that stir the soul, embrace quirkiness, and tap into the emotional magic of gaming classics.”
Griffing Gaming Partners partner Pierre Planche added: “Launching something truly original in gaming takes guts, authenticity, and an unshakable passion for the craft. In an era where data is often the core driver for design, Bit Odd is charting a different course – we’re excited to back Lasse and a team of next-gen talent.”
