Today, Square Enix revealed the release date of the first and so far only Forspoken DLC announced to date, In Tanta We Trust.
The DLC will be available for PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store) and PlayStation 5 on May 26th, though owners of the Forspoken Digital Deluxe Edition will be able to play starting on May 23rd thanks to the complimentary three days of early access. The Forspoken DLC will also be available for separate purchase, though Square Enix did not reveal its price yet.
In this story expansion, the main character Frey Holland is still searching for a way to reverse the corruption of the Break in a permanent way. In her search, she stumbles upon a mysterious voice that eventually leads her back in time to the Rheddig Purge, approximately 25 years before the events seen in the base game. Accompanied by her mother, Tanta Cinta, Frey will not only get to witness the historic battle that brought madness to the once-wise Tantas, she will also have Athia once more.
The environments of this Forspoken DLC have been designed more vertically than horizontally, allowing Frey’s parkour abilities to shine in both exploration and combat. There’s also a new set of magical abilities that can be unlocked to add powerful attack combos to Frey’s already impressive arsenal.
Forspoken was released in late January to a lukewarm reception. Square Enix admitted that the sales had been lackluster compared to expectations. The developer, Luminous Productions, was also folded back into the Square Enix development divisions.
In my review of the game, I rated Forspoken 7/10. You can read the final excerpt below.
Forspoken is a fun action game that shines best when you’re taking advantage of the great magic parkour to soar through the fantasy world of Athia and blast enemies with overwhelmingly cool spells. However, its content is underwhelming, its RPG systems are weak, and its visuals are less advanced than advertised. As such, Forspoken’s potential is largely unrealized in its current state. It’s still a decent romp for genre fans to go through, though waiting until it gets a discount or is added to one of the many subscription services is recommended.
