Finnish games livestreaming platform Noice is shutting up shop six years after it was founded.
In a LinkedIn post, CEO Tuomas Rinta said the news was announced to the team last Monday and came amid a tough fundraising market.
Noice had raised $21 million in a Series A funding round in November 2023. Backers included Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen, Wolt CEO Miki Kuusi, F4 Fund and Bitkraft, amongst others. Back in 2021, it had also received $5m in seed backing.
The company had aimed to blend together competitive and cooperative multiplayer gaming with livestreaming into one platform, but it faced stiff competition from the likes of Twitch in the space.
“Stings like hell”
“Noice is shutting down,” said chairman and co-founder Jussi Laakkonen. “Writing those four words stings like hell – as it should.
“But at the same time – what a journey over six years. From initial idea to a full fledged next-gen livestreaming platform. These years have been full of crazy high ambition to pioneer a truly innovative platform that merged watching livestreams with multiplayer gaming and free-to-play monetisation. Working and building with incredible co-founders and team mates and partnering with so many fabulous creators, who made Noice their home.
“I’m so incredibly proud to have worked again with so many awesome team members with whom we previously built Applifier and scaled it as part of Unity – and also having found so many new and fantastic colleagues on Noice’s journey.”
Rinta commented: “Last Monday, I went in front of the team at Noice and had to deliver the message I had hoped that I wouldn’t have to, to tell them that the story of Noice is coming to an end.
“It wasn’t a surprise to anyone in the company, as we’ve been openly discussing the tough fundraising market we’re in, but of course we wanted to be hopeful until the end that we could deliver a positive outcome and our story would continue.
“My journey at Noice is a shorter one than many others, who have been building this platform for over five years. Building something new, bold, different.”
