Google is making it easier to jump back to the search box after searching through a page of results by introducing a new keyboard shortcut.
As 9To5Google reports, anyone visiting Google.com today and performing a search may see a pop-up appear informing them they can “Press / to jump back to the search box.” Sure enough, tapping “/” on your keyboard will see the search box grab the focus, but the page doesn’t scroll back up to the top.
Most Google searches return millions of results that are spread across hundreds of pages, but most of us never make it off the first page as Google is very good at finding the web page or information we desire on page one. Even so, Google typically shows 10 results per page, but they are interspersed with Top stories, a “People also ask” section, videos, and related searches. The search box is always on screen, but doesn’t have the focus.
The new shortcut is very convenient, especially if you’re using a laptop and don’t have a mouse plugged in. Moving the mouse pointer with a touch pad is slow, so the instant key tap method is sure to become popular and the preferred method quickly.
