The Grand Theft Auto San Andreas RTX Remix mod is so demanding that even a powerful GPU like the RTX 4080 cannot hit steady 60 FPS at 1440p resolution.
A new comparison video shared by MxBenchmark PC highlights the visual differences between the original version of the game and the RTX Remix modded version and also shows how demanding modded path tracing is. In the very first comparison, for example, the game goes from running at around 300 FPS to barely over 60 FPS at 1440p resolution and with NVIDIA DLSS Quality. As this mod, much like every other current RTX Remix project, is still a work-in-progress, there’s no doubt that there’s still plenty of optimization to do, although it is still telling how modern GPUs still aren’t exactly ready for path tracing.
GTA San Andreas RTX Remix giving trouble to an NVIDIA RTX 4080 GPU isn’t exactly surprising, considering how a game with a smaller scope like Max Payne also brought the GPU to its knees in its RTX Remix modded version.
Despite being extremely demanding, there’s no denying that Grand Theft Auto San Andreas RTX Remix looks impressive, making us wish for a proper remake powered by the latest technology. Unfortunately, the game’s official remaster included in the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition leaves quite a lot to be desired, as highlighted by Nathan in his review.
