The rumor mill around Grand Theft Auto 6 keeps going; this time, we have the rumored release window for the game. According to an insider, GTA 6 is expected to be released on the 2024 holiday season. It was also pointed out that the game may have some portions of it cut out and be held for future DLC to meet this release window. One more thing that’s also stated is that there will be an announcement for the game this year.
The insider in question is Tez2, a GTA Forums insider that has extensively covered various things surrounding other GTA titles. The leaker has been known for revealing news about upcoming events, updates, and even information surrounding titles like Red Dead Redemption 2. The leaker posted the following comment in the forums:
Their aimed-always-changing-not-set-in-stone deadline is holiday 2024. Which has been pushed back multiple times the past few years. Unfortunately, it could slip into early 2025 as well. Speaking of which, most companies are returning with a “forced return to office” policy to revert back to pre-pandemic days. Activision Blizzard is already met with internal backlash. Rockstar is no different. The debate and consequences of the policy is a whole other topic.
With almost the entirety of the workforce in office, Rockstar could be more firm about an announcement this year. Yet, losing work talent could very much lead to more delays. I personally see an announcement as a given this year. I don’t think the upper management is in a position to delay further to holiday 2025/2026. Cutting more portions of the game to package into DLCs to release later on may be sustainable for management than delaying further.
Of course, the idea of having GTA 6 released in a state where content will be cut for post-launch DLC will make some of our readers wince. Additionally, one cannot ignore the supposed internal issues that Rockstar is facing due to the updated work policies. This could definitely translate into problems down the pipeline, especially with Rockstar losing talent over the course of the last few years.
Now, whether or not GTA 6 will actually release during the holiday season of 2024 is up in the air. The wait for the game has become harder for a lot of fans, especially after last year’s leak which took the news stream by storm by becoming one of the biggest gaming leaks in history. Still, we have to urge our readers to take this rumor with a grain of salt until an official announcement is made.
