Two months ago, we learned that Guerrilla Games had been working on LEGO Horizon Adventures, a spin-off title based on the post-apocalyptic franchise.
The official announcement came at Summer Game Fest 2024, when we discovered that the Dutch team had partnered with Studio Gobo to develop a fully multiplatform game scheduled to launch this Holiday on PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Well, not quite ‘fully’, as Microsoft’s Xbox console is missing.
Speaking with Stephen Totilo’s Game File on the topic, Guerrilla Games Narrative Director James Windeler said:
Right now, we’re just very much focused on pushing this hardware to its limits and making this game look as absolutely amazing as it can possibly be on this hardware, and you know, we don’t really have anything to announce about Xbox right now.
To be honest, it’s not really a convincing reason. The developers may be pushing PS5 to its limits, but the game is also launching on the Nintendo Switch, and the Xbox Series X is certainly at least as capable as the PlayStation 5 (albeit with some differences). With that said, they didn’t say never to an Xbox version, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility. On the other hand, Sony really doesn’t like publishing its games on its chief rival console unless it absolutely has to, like with MLB The Show.
LEGO Horizon Adventures sadly won’t support co-op online play either, as Guerrilla Games confirmed earlier. Still, it should be a fun romp, especially for kids.
