Just two weeks ago, Microsoft surprised gamers by launching multiplayer mode for Halo Infinite. What may come as less of a surprise is how quickly cheaters have cropped up in the game.
Halo Infinite players on PC and Xbox alike are finding opponents in matches using powerful cheats that make it all too easy to lock onto and kill other players, including wall hacks and aimbots, The Verge reports.
While cheating software tends to be more commonplace on PC, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer features cross-play between console and PC players. As a result, gamers on Xbox can find themselves matched against cheaters on PC.
Some of the issues may stem from Halo Infinite’s approach to cheating software. Rather than using client-side software that can detect cheat software and stop those players from entering the game, Halo Infinite is using server-side cheat-detection technology, according to The Verge. This may not be catching cheating players fast enough.
Other big-name games, such as Call of Duty: Warzone and Valorant, have tackled cheating problems with kernel-level drivers. But this anti-cheat tactic has its critics, as it can feel invasive to grant that level of access on a computer. Call of Duty: Vanguard’s Ricochet even had details of its anti-cheat system leak online before the game launched.
Microsoft and 343 Industries may have their work cut out for them as the cheats range from wall and aim hacks to ammo, speed, and jump-height modifications. And cheat makers work quickly, sometimes even having cheat software out months before a game’s release.
