Legendary film director Hayao Miyazaki is best known for his award-winning animated films at Studio Ghibli, but he’s also a published author. For Prime Day, you can pick up his classic story Shuna’s Journey, a grand tale about a prince on a quest for a golden grain with the power to save his land. On sale for $15.60 (normally $28), this manga was first published all the way back in 1983, and it wasn’t until 2022 when it finally received an English translation.
A combination of Tibetan folklore, adventure, and elegant watercolor illustrations, this story has been translated by Alex Dudok de Wit, an animation consultant and associate editor at Cartoon Brew. Similar to Studio Ghibli films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, Shuna’s Journey is set in a world inhabited by people, gods, and monsters. The English translation was well-received, and in 2023, it won a prestigious Eisner award.
If you’re looking to grab some animated films to go along with this picture book, you can check out all the remaining Prime Day Blu-ray deals. The notable one here is The Boy and the Heron, which is back in stock after quickly selling out last week. You can also pick up a few classic films, like the adorable My Neighbor Totoro, the dark fantasy Howl’s Moving Castle, and the action-packed Porco Rosso.
