There are 16 Daedalian Keys in Hogwarts Legacy, and they’re scattered all over the castle. By finding them, you’ll acquire tokens used to open a special chest, one that has an amazing cosmetic reward. Here’s our Hogwarts Legacy guide to help you unlock the House Chest by collecting all Daedalian Keys.
Starting The Daedalian Keys sidequest
To start The Daedalian Keys sidequest in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to talk to a student named Nelli Oggspire. She’s standing behind the tree in the Transfiguration Courtyard area. Agree to help her and track the sidequest.
Astronomy Tower and Daedalian Cabinets
Follow the markers until you arrive at the destination. The key will zip straight to a nearby classroom, whereupon you’ll notice a curious-looking cabinet. Interact with it to start a minigame.
The objective here is to wait for the key to go across the center of the cabinet. When this occurs, quickly press the button prompt to slap it. This will open the cabinet and reward you with one House Token.
Next, fast-travel to your Common Room and place the token inside the House Chest. Return to Nellie to complete this step. From this point onward, the remaining keys will no longer be marked. As such, we’re going to tackle the Hogwarts Legacy House Chest and Daedalian Keys objective per wing, noting the closest fast-travel points to help with navigation.
Astronomy Wing Daedalian Keys
Transfiguration Courtyard – Enter the door beside the fast travel point and go up the steps. The key is floating near the Rhino skeleton display.
Transfiguration Classroom (Staircase) – From the fast travel point, check the large wooden door to your left. Enter it to spot the key beside the stairwell. It will fly to the top of the steps where you’ll find the cabinet.
Transfiguration Classroom (Dragon Statue) – This is the same chamber where you spotted the key mentioned above. This time, go down the steps. You’ll eventually see the cabinet, and the key is just below the landing. It’s in front of the dragon statue.
Transfiguration Classroom (Cellar) – From the dragon statue, go through the passageway until you see the cellars. Follow the key all the way to the basement with the cabinet.
Grand Staircase Daedalian Keys
Grand Staircase Tower – You’ll notice the key floating in front of several portraits just before you reach the topmost Symbol Door Puzzle. Stand close to the railings until it decides to flutter downward. It will go to the cabinet that’s beside another Symbol Door Puzzle, which also happens to be just above the Grand Staircase teleporter.
Grand Staircase – Go forward from the fast travel point and check the large door to your left. The key and the cabinet are in the adjoining room that connects to the Viaduct Courtyard.
Great Hall Daedalian Keys
Great Hall (Fireplace) – The key is beside the fireplace to your left. It will fly to the cabinet in the small nook off to the side of the Floo Flames.
Great Hall (Garden) – From the fast-travel point, go through the large doors to your right to reach the garden. Pass through the archway to find the key. It will zigzag all over the place, eventually heading to the cabinet at the back-left section. It’s near the door that leads to the Sept area (i.e., red chamber with a star).
Library Annex Daedalian Keys
Library – The key is between some bookcases. The cabinet is near the Floo Flames.
Central Hall (Greenhouse Entrance) – Turn right at the statue. As you approach the emerald door to the Greenhouses, look to your left. The key will fly to the opposite side of Central Hall toward a nook where you’ll see a Symbol Door Puzzle.
Central Hall (Marble Steps) – Instead of walking toward the statue, climb up the steps. You should see the large doors that lead to the Viaduct Courtyard. The key is behind the marble steps to your right. It will fly back to the main staircase where you came.
Potions Classroom – Go through the door and you’ll see the key in front of the classroom. It will fly down the spiral steps to the cabinet at the bottom.
South Wing Daedalian Keys
Faculty Tower (Staircase) – This requires the completion of The Caretaker’s Lunar Lament, the main quest that rewards you with Alohomora. It’s the only way you’ll be able to unlock the Faculty Tower. From the fast travel point, enter the Faculty Tower and climb up the steps. The key is in front of a Symbol Door Puzzle, and it will fly to the cabinet below.
Faculty Tower (Clock Gears) – From the spot mentioned above, continue up the spiral staircase until you reach the top. You should see the cabinet here. As for the key, go through the nearby corridor that leads to the large clock tower gears. The key will pop up and fly back to the cabinet.
Clock Tower Courtyard – Once you spawn, unlock the gatehouse door at the left-hand side. Continue up the steps and you’ll see the key in front of an ornate door. It will fly up another set of steps where the cabinet is located.
You can also reach this area by using the Hospital Wing fast travel point, then heading down the wooden scaffolding where the large clock gears are.
Opening the House Chest
After obtaining all Daedalian Keys, you can open the Hogwarts Legacy House Chest. It contains a legendary-quality robe. It’s purely cosmetic in nature and used for transmogrification, but it does show off your House’s colors and symbol. You can see what this design looks like in the featured image of our Hogwarts Legacy House Chest guide.
