Following the explosive debut on Twitch, Hogwarts Legacy is already doing big numbers on Steam, too. According to SteamDB, Avalanche Software’s open world RPG surpassed Bethesda Game Studios’ Fallout 4 to become the second biggest single player launch ever recorded on Steam after Cyberpunk 2077 with 474K players. CD Projekt RED’s game peaked at over 1.05 million concurrent players when it launched in December 2020. However, Hogwarts Legacy is still in early access, meaning that only owners of the more expensive Deluxe Edition are allowed in the game now. The true test will happen on Friday, February 10th, the day of the full release.
In Wccftech’s review-in-progress, Chris Wray said he’s having a lot of fun with Hogwarts Legacy, even though it borrows from some Ubisoft open world game tropes like bandit camps.
I can honestly say I’m enjoying it a hell of a lot. I’ve already put over 30 hours into Hogwarts Legacy because I like to review a game as I’d play it. If the developer throws in a lot of side quests, collectibles, and more, they want the player to go for them – so I am.
If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, there will be a lot to like here. The simple ability to explore Hogwarts in all its labyrinthine glory is great, but making trips to Hogsmeade, the forbidden forest, and further afield is just as enjoyable.
