A new patch is now live for Horizon Forbidden West, introducing support for the soon-to-be-released Burning Shores expansion as well as some highly requested accessibility features and quality-of-life improvements.
Patch 1.21, which is only available for the PlayStation 5 version of the game, brings some extremely welcome accessibility features, which include the option to enlarge subtitles, an auto-pickup option, color blindness settings, auto camera, navigational assist in Focus Mode, and more.
Guerilla Games also confirmed on Reddit that they are aware of an issue preventing players from pre-loading the Burning Shores expansion. The studio will also continue to look at any remaining issues in the game, encouraging players to continue informing the developer about any issue via their Support Form.

While it’s disappointing to learn that these additional accessibility features may not ever make their way onto the PlayStation 4 version of the game, it was somewhat expected that work on the previous generation version of Horizon Forbidden West would end at some point before support for the PS5 version ended, as the aforementioned Burning Shores expansion is only releasing on the current generation console. Thanks to PS5 exclusivity, however, the team at Guerilla Games was able to push visual quality further and introduce plenty of other improvements, such as more complex cities, bigger battles, and even explorable skyscapes.
Hopefully, the new features will set the game further apart from its predecessor, as the base game doesn’t feel all that different from the previous entry in the series, despite improving the experience in every possible way.
Horizon Forbidden West is now available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The Burning Shores expansion will launch tomorrow, April 19th, only on PlayStation 5. You can learn more about the base game by checking out Alessio’s review.
