Horizon Zero Dawn does not support ray tracing natively, but it would look unreal if it did, as showcased in a new video shared online.
The new 8K resolution video, shared on YouTube by DigitalDreams, shows the first entry in the series by Guerilla Games running with the Complete RT shader by NiceGuy, an advanced screen space ray tracing shader that lets users add global illumination with effects like Diffuse Illumination and Specular Reflection, ambient occlusion and glossy reflections to any game via Reshade. Needless to say, the end results are so amazing that the modded first entry in the series puts its sequel’s visuals to shame.
Horizon Zero Dawn’s sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, launched on PlayStation 5 last year and was expanded this year with the Burning Shores expansion. The base game improves its predecessor’s formula in every possible way but does not innovate it in any significant way, as highlighted by Alessio in his review.
Horizon Forbidden West is a worthy sequel to Zero Dawn in every way, proving that Guerrilla is no one-hit wonder when it comes to the action RPG genre. This huge and beautiful world has an incredible amount of things to do and most of them are really fun, thanks to improvements to combat and traversal. The game also features another great storyline that will get fans talking about the inevitable sequel.
Horizon Zero Dawn is now out on PC and PlayStation 4 worldwide. Forbidden West will make its debut on PC sometime next year.
