1) Final Fantasy XIV Mobile could be launching August 29th
Square Enix and Lightspeed Studios’ Final Fantasy XIV Mobile has a tentative release date in China, listed on the country’s App Store with an August 29th launch.
Though no official word of a release date has yet come from Square Enix, a licence approval was granted for the title in China last year and pre-registrations have already opened.
2) Machine Zone CEO out as AppLovin lays off 97 staff
Ad tech firm AppLovin has laid off 97 staff, according to a WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) filing in California.
This included the CEO and design director at Mobile Strike developer Machine Zone, after the CTO was laid off in a previous notice.
3) Clash of Clans: The Epic Raid board game to launch on Kickstarter with early pledge reward
Clash of Clans: The Epic Raid is a new Clash of Clans board game launching on Kickstarter, marking the IP’s first adaptation to this medium.
The Epic Raid is expected to reimagine Clash of Clans gameplay in a physical setting, with players building defences, deploying units and raiding others’ bases. Early pledges will earn consumers a bonus miniature of the Golden Barbarian King.
4) Nintendo app installs surge after Switch 2 Direct while its mobile games go unnoticed
This month’s Nintendo Switch 2 Direct has had a knock-on effect on multiple Nintendo mobile apps, with the Nintendo Switch Online app leading the pack. It saw a 109% daily download surge on April 2nd, according to Sensor Tower data.
Nintendo Music had a 28% spike in installs, but the Nintendo Today app appeared unaffected by the Switch 2 news.
5) Bleach: Brave Souls hits 100m installs ahead of 10th anniversary
KLab’s Bleach: Brave Souls has surpassed 100 million global installs across mobile, PC and console, with at least 25% of those installs having occurred in the past two years.
The milestone has been reached ahead of the game’s 10th anniversary, approaching this July in Japan.
