1) The Elder Scrolls: Castles is out now as a “spiritual successor” to Fallout Shelter
Bethesda’s new mobile empire builder, The Elder Scrolls: Castles, is out now globally, marketed as the “spiritual successor” to Fallout Shelter. The title takes a simulation approach over the main series’ action RPG genre, with one year in-game passing for every real-world day.
Castles generated $170,000 during its soft launch period and arrived at the top of Google Play’s simulation games chart on day one.
2) Tencent’s upcoming RPG Honor of Kings: World set for 2025 release date
Tencent’s new open-world RPG Honor of Kings: World is set to release sometime in 2025, as per the latest announcement made alongside the iPhone 16 reveal.
Apple stated that the mobile title will be optimised for the new iPhone, which has an “ultra graphics mode” and “powerful global illumination technology,” which powers higher resolution, expanded viewing distance, and more.
3) Ubisoft minority investor calls for new CEO, studio sales and company to go private
Ubisoft minority investor AJ Investments has called for the dev to stop focusing on “average games” that harm its reputation. Feeling “deep dissatisfaction” with Ubisoft’s current direction, the investor also called for a change of leadership and for the company to be taken private or sold.
The letter follows Ubisoft’s shares falling to a 10-year low, far below AJ Investments’ preferred range.
Monster Hunter Now generated almost $225 million in gross revenue during its first year and has kicked off its anniversary celebration in style with new quests, monsters and even a Streamer Mode.
Firmly Niantic’s second-biggest game, the development team has had a busy first year testing a range of monetisation models – from a soft stamina gate to a subscription service and even one paid-only event – ultimately looking to deliver more content to those paying players.
5) iPhone 16 packs ‘30% better’ gaming performance
Upon unveiling the iPhone 16 lineup, Apple confirmed its latest range comes packed with an A18 chip. The company claimed its new devices will run games at a 30% higher sustained performance, with the new six-core CPU 30% faster than the A16 Bionic chip.
The iPhone 16, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max will be released on September 20th in more than 58 countries.
