1) The Pokémon Company wins legal battle over copyright-infringing mobile game
The Pokémon Company has reached a mediated settlement against Chinese mobile game Pocket Monster: Remake following its copyright infringement lawsuit.
The Pokémon Company sought $72 million in damages and public apologies across social media platforms, but ended up winning just $15m for unfair competition in September 2024. A second hearing in December resulted in a mediated settlement involving “a huge sum”.
2) Supercell reveals Boat Game with alpha test coming soon
Supercell has teased its next new game called Boat Game, with many details still under wraps but applications open for an alpha test.
The reveal trailer depicted character customisation, island exploration, boat sailing and multiplayer shooter-style gameplay.
3) AppLovin labels short-seller reports “nefarious” and “misleading” as shares sink
Fuzzy Panda Research and Culper Research have published short-seller reports containing accusations about AppLovin’s business practices, which AppLovin CEO Adam Foroughi has called “false and misleading”.
Shares in AppLovin fell by as much as 20% following the claims. Foroughi has accused the short-sellers of “driving down our stock price for their own financial gain”.
4) Playtika allocates up to $450m for “bolt-on” M&A activity over next three years
Playtika has allocated $300m to $450m for “bolt-on” M&A activity over the next three years, according to president and CFO Craig Abrahams.
The allocation was announced during the latest investor call for Q4 and 2024. Financials also revealed that Playtika’s direct-to-consumer revenue from its mobile games portfolio hit $694 million in 2024.

Pokémon Day 2025 saw the Pokémon franchise celebrate 29 years since the original Game Boy release of Red and Green in Japan.
Almost three decades on, the series has six active mobile games with Pokémon Go still on top, but TCG Pocket is rising fast and Sleep’s proving no slacker either.
