Founding a new game company is stressful enough, but when you’re faced with the reality that none of the available game development tools are powerful enough to build your dream games, that’s the moment most would hit the panic button.
This was the exact situation Quicksave Interactive founders Elina Arponen, Timo Kämäräinen, and Ville-Kalle Arponen found themselves in during the early days of their company in 2017.
With years of experience and a successful exit from their earlier game company, they knew what it took to create something extraordinary. However, none of the existing game development tools back then were fast or efficient enough to meet their needs for high-performance HTML5 games with extensive content.
So what did they do? They built their own.
The evolution of Quicksave Toolkit: From internal tool to industry game-changer
Over the years, the internal tools they developed evolved into what is now known as the Quicksave Toolkit, an HTML5 WebGL toolkit including the UI Editor and the Machine Editor.
The UI Editor, designed specifically for artists and designers, enables the creation of interactive UI elements using PixiJS without the need for coding. Meanwhile, the Machine Editor is a no-code tool for building finite state machines using XState, ensuring a smooth integration between visual design and interactive logic.
With these tools, the Quicksave team has created numerous popular titles and experiences that have already captivated millions of players worldwide.
Quicksave’s Toolkit has been the driving force behind several high-profile projects. For instance, in collaboration with Sky Mavis, Quicksave was the first third-party developer to create an HTML5 multiplayer game, Axie Infinity: Raylights for the world-leading Web3 brand and IP, Axie Infinity.
Quicksave also created Beatstar Friends in cooperation with SpaceApe, further solidifying their reputation as experts in HTML5 game development.
They also developed their own IP, Werewolf Friends, a classic party game seamlessly integrated into Zoom Meetings, providing a memorable, interactive experience for friends and colleagues.
Pushing boundaries
By early 2024, after years of refining and using their toolkit to push boundaries in HTML5 game development, Quicksave decided to license the Quicksave Toolkit to other game and multimedia companies.
Their goal was to provide these companies with the tools needed to overcome the same challenges Quicksave had once faced, allowing them to create unique, high-performance games and experiences that stand out in an increasingly competitive market.
Since then, Quicksave has gained a growing number of customers, continuously improving the UI Editor and Machine Editor based on industry trends, customer feedback, and their own in-house expertise.
Today, even those without a technical background can easily create thrilling and engaging gaming experiences with the Quicksave Toolkit—no coding required. Users can achieve infinite iteration speed, thanks to the streamlined workflow.
With free access to white papers and beginner-friendly step-by-step video tutorials, users can embed games into any app, device, or web page or create standalone interactive content with ease.
Quicksave and their talented team will be showcasing the magic of the Quicksave Toolkit at Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki on October 1st and 2nd.
