If you’ve been getting stuck into the latest iteration of Civilization, you may have noticed that there have been a lot of changes and mix-ups to the features of Civilization, giving it a fresh coat of paint and adding new strategies for players to experiment with. One of the new features added in Civilization 7 is the cap on how many settlements you have. Much like previous games, you start off with your Settler, and you choose somewhere to settle. As you progress through the game, you will then found more cities to add to your ever-growing civilization. However, in this game, you have a cap. Don’t panic too much, as there is a way to get more settlements without having to deal with the negative consequences. How To Raise Settlement Cap in Civilization 7
When you start, you will typically be able to build up to three Settlements without having any issues. However, if you were to build more than that, your settlement cap would give you a -5 Happiness per settlement. As you progress through the game, there will be ways to raise the Settlement Cap, which will then allow you to found more cities and expand your civilization. Luckily, it’s relatively easy to raise the cap, as there are certain technologies and research that you can undertake that will raise that cap for you. Below is a way you can get more settlements in Civilization 7 without having to receive a happiness penalty.
Militaristic and Expansionist attributes. This is something that is available to all ages, but you will have to get points as a Leader to be able to unlock these attributes. You will be notified in-game when you receive a point, and then you just have to click on your Leader icon, where you will be given the option to place your point in the select category it has rewarded you in.
Antiquity Technology and Antiquity Civics. Specifically, you’ll want to study Irrigation, Entertainment and Organized Military to be able to raise the settlement cap.
Once you’ve entered the Exploration Age, there are certain Technologies and Civics you can research to raise the cap. They are Feudalism, Society Mastery, Colonialism Mastery, Social Class, Sovereignty, and Imperialism.
When you’ve been playing for a large amount of time, your civilization will progress into the Modern Age. Here, there are even more technologies and civics you can research that will raise your settlement cap. They are Urbanization, Mass Production, Nationalism, Globalism and Hegemony.
By researching all of these technologies and civics, you can have more than 20 different settlements under your belt to build a grand empire.
