Huawei has been out of the spotlight for most of 2021, but the former smartphone giant is still very much alive. So much so that it has scheduled an unexpected announcement event for late October.
Huawei might announce global P50 series availability at its event
The press event in question is set to take place on October 21 in Vienna. Huawei hasn’t provided any hints as to which devices it intends to announce, but there’s a good chance it relates to global availability of the Huawei P50 series. The latter was announced in China back in July and at the time Huawei had no information to share with regards to a global launch. The event could also relate to the Mate 50 series, but rumor has it that Huawei has canceled those devices.
Regardless of which devices are announced, availability is likely to be very limited. Huawei has struggled to obtain the necessary components to keep its smartphone business running in recent months.
Demand is unlikely to be high either, the main reason being that none of Huawei’s new smartphone ship with Google services pre-installed. That’s not an issue in China, but internationally it’s a huge dealbreaker for most customers.
