Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the latest Xbox exclusive game rumored to be in development for PlayStation 5, too. It all started earlier this month with Jeff Grubb and other insiders revealing that Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves would be going multiplatform to PlayStation and possibly Nintendo consoles. The rumor gained strength when texture files showing exclusive t-shirts for Nintendo and PlayStation users were datamined in Hi-Fi Rush. At first, it sounded like Microsoft just wanted to port older and/or less important titles to squeeze some additional revenue from other platforms.
However, the floodgates opened a few hours ago when XboxEra reported that Bethesda’s Starfield itself would launch on PlayStation 5 after the release of the Shattered Space expansion (scheduled at some point in 2024). Porting such a high-profile exclusive relatively soon after its debut would be shocking, but the multiplatform plans are reportedly even wider.
As mentioned in the headline, The Verge journalist Tom Warren has heard that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released on PS5 as well. According to his source, MachineGames and Bethesda are targeting a December launch on PC and Xbox Series S|X, but the PlayStation 5 version shouldn’t be too far behind. It’s worth noting that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was originally meant to be a multiplatform game, but after Microsoft acquired ZeniMax and Bethesda, it negotiated with Disney to make it exclusive to its Xbox consoles.
Following these two big rumors, XboxEra co-founder Shpeshal Nick has added that he reckons Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II might go multiplatform as well. Windows Central’s Jez Corden has since said he heard two possible scenarios from different sources: for some Xbox games to go multiplatform and for all Xbox games to make the jump.
The latter would be tantamount to Microsoft going third-party, which has droves of Xbox fans up in arms as they don’t feel there would be any point in owning an Xbox console any longer. If the rumors were confirmed, the only benefit would be the availability of Game Pass. They’re also worried Microsoft might not even make a new Xbox console anymore, which could mean trouble for their digital libraries. Needless to say, Microsoft will have to come out and address these increasingly strong rumors as soon as possible.
In other Indiana Jones and the Great Circle news, the first-person action/adventure game is being developed with the id Tech engine, although we don’t know yet if it’s the id Tech 7 seen in Doom Eternal or a new iteration possibly called id Tech 8.
