One of the new features in iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 (two new software versions currently in beta testing) is the ability to change the default music service. This makes it possible, for example, to play a certain song via Siri without having to clarify that you want to hear it on Spotify or Pandora instead of through Apple’s Music app.
Perhaps Spotify will at last come round to the idea that Apple’s platform is open and fair.
Of course, in order to be able to choose something other than Apple Music, you need to have other music apps installed on your iPhone or iPad.
According to MacRumors, the system currently has a bug which switches the default back to Apple Music from time to time. But hopefully this will be fixed before the final public versions of iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 are released, which will be at the end of March.
