There was some unexpected news at Apple’s Spring Loaded event.
The first hardware product announcement at the event was an old one: the iPhone 12 and 12 mini are to get a new and sixth colour – purple.
Apple showed off the new colour in an introductory video worthy of Jony Ive.
The purple finish joins the other colour options for both the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini. These include blue, green, black, white, and (PRODUCT)RED.
It goes on sale on Friday and of course costs as much as the other colours.
The purple iPhone will be available for pre-order beginning Friday 23 April, with availability beginning Friday 30 April.
It is interesting that Apple has made the purple option available for the iPhone 12 mini as that model was rumoured to be selling badly, or at least not as well as Apple had expected. It’s thought that the iPhone SE had proved too good competition to the more expensive handset – perhaps the new purple finish will level the playing field.
