More news has emerged regarding the new camera features we can expect when the iPhone 13 is announced next month.
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has predicted, in fact, that changes to the camera setup will be the biggest news in this autumn’s iPhone refresh.
Among the new features, according to reports, is a new Portrait Mode for video: as in the still-image version of the feature, it will blur the background and highlight the main subject in a bokeh effect.
“Apple first added Portrait mode to the iPhone 7 Plus in 2016,” he writes. “For the new iPhones, Apple plans to add this same technique to video with a feature internally dubbed Cinematic Video. Like with still photos, the iPhone’s depth sensor will create the effect and allow users to change the amount of blur after recording.”
A new higher-quality video format, named ProRes, will also be added, along with a new filter-like system that will improve colours in still images. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in terms of photographic upgrades coming in September.
Moving away from the camera, Gurman mentions that the iPhone 13 will get an A15 chip (unsurprisingly), a smaller notch on the front, and a new screen technology that could provide a higher refresh rate. However, the camera features are expected to be the main selling points, he says.
