Some of us are still waiting for our late-2020 iPhones to arrive, but we’re already hearing rumours about the upgrades and new features we can expect from the 2021 handsets.
The latest news is a pair of predictions from the well-informed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The first is slightly dull: we will get the same screen sizes next year that we got for the 12-series models, which is to say 5.4in, 6.1in and 6.7in. But the other prediction is more interesting.
The cameras, Kuo says, will be significantly improved. For example, the aperture of the ultra-wide-angle camera in the two Pro models will be f1.8 instead of f2.4. This means twice as much light will be let in, producing sharper images in darker conditions.
In addition, the ultra-wide angle camera will be equipped with autofocus, which can be useful for close-up photography.
According to 9to5Mac, Kuo expects demand for the iPhone 13 to be higher than for the iPhone 12. Partly because the ongoing pandemic is likely to be over when the new mobile phones are launched, and partly because the expansion of 5G coverage will have progressed further.
