It’s been five long years, but the first trailer for Joker 2 has arrived. Subtitled Folie à Deux (literal translation “madness for two”, but medically speaking where two people share a delusion), the upcoming sequel continues the story from 2019’s Oscar-winning Joker and introduces Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn into the fold.
Earlier today, Warner Bros. released a teaser to hype up the trailer showing Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck/the Joker laughing to himself in Arkham Asylum in the rain. You can check out the full trailer below now, full of music, mayhem, and the chaotic magnetism of the Joker and Harley.
Joker was initially presented as a standalone film, with the intent of it launching Warner Bros.’ DC Black film series. The film became the first R-rated movie to gross over a billion dollars at the global box office and was nominated for 11 Academy Awards–winning two for Best Actor for Phoenix and Best Original Score.
Gaga is the second-only live-action Harley Quinn, following Margot Robbie, and from all indications, will be exponentially different from anything we’ve seen before.
Joker: Folie à Deux is the only DC movie slated for release in 2024, and is directed by Todd Phillips, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. It’s set to be released in theaters on October 4.
