Gladiator 2 is under five months away from its premiere, but Paramount hasn’t released any trailers or pictures from the sequel yet. However, the cast has already been revealed, including Stranger Things and The Fantastic Four‘s Joseph Quinn. In the new movie, Quinn plays Geta, one of the co-emperors of Rome. And according to Quinn, the sequel will definitely pay homage to the original movie from 2000.
“We certainly were aware of the legacy of the first film, so we wanted to pay homage to that, and understand that it’s one of those films that a lot of people get misty-eyed about, myself included,” said Quinn. “Going back near that world felt a little daunting, but also utterly thrilling. Yes, I play one of the emperors in it, and it was a truly incredible experience. And that’s all I can say.”
Ridley Scott, the director of the first Gladiator, is returning to helm the sequel. Connie Nielsen is reprising her role as Lucilla, while Derek Jacobi will once again play Senator Gracchus. Although Pedro Pascal and Denzel Washington have sizable starring roles, the lead character will be Lucilla’s son, Lucius Verus. Paul Mescal is taking over that role from Spencer Treat Clark, and in the 15 years that Lucius has lived in seclusion, he’s turned himself into a warrior.
Fred Hechinger will also appear co-emperor Caracalla, while Lior Raz, Peter Mensah, Matt Lucas, May Calamawy, Tim McInnerny, and Alexander Karim have been cast in undisclosed roles. Gladiator 2 will hit theaters on November 22.
