King has stopped support for soft-launched titles Candy Crush Blast and Candy Crush 3D, two titles that have gone without an update for almost a year.
Both games were released in select territories in 2023 and saw their final updates last December.
While the pair are still listed on the Google Play Store in the Philippines, neither will release globally as fully-fledged mobile games. Instead, they appear to have ultimately served as broader tests in King’s development process.
“We’ve gained valuable insights from recent tests that help us fine-tune our approach to delivering engaging experiences,” a King spokesperson told PocketGamer.biz when asked if the titles had been cancelled.
“Testing new ideas is part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing our gameplay experience, and we’re always learning to ensure we design games that best serve our players.”
Testing, testing
The pair of Candy Crush tests both released in the Philippines last year with 3D also soft launching in Malaysia. The latter title promised “a whole new way to enjoy Candy Crush” with match-3D mechanics and shiny new visuals taking its classic assortment of sweets into the third dimension.
Candy Crush Blast, meanwhile, marked King’s second tap-to-blast experiment in the franchise following 2018’s Candy Crush Cubes. Blast tasked players with tapping their way through fast-paced puzzles in something of a departure from the main series’ mechanics.
While neither title will proceed beyond the testing phase, King’s other recent experiment, the card-based Candy Crush Solitaire, appears to be receiving continued support. After a beta test in 2023, the title soft launched in Canada this March and received its latest update on November 8th, 2024.
Unlike Blast and 3D, Candy Crush Solitaire is present on both Google Play and the App Store, designed to offer challenges to “all types of players”. The title is currently available in Germany, Indonesia, Mexico and the Netherlands.
