South Korean games publisher Krafton has acquired Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush IP in a strategic expansion move.
Krafton has also penned an agreement with Xbox and ZeniMax to support Tango Gameworks in maintaining continuity during their transition.
The collaboration will enable the Tango Gameworks team to continue developing the popular Hi-Fi Rush IP and explore future projects.
A cautionary tale
Tango Gameworks is a particularly intriguing studio and one which has been in the news recently. Despite the success of Hi-Fi Rush, a game that received widespread acclaim and won multiple awards, the studio was unexpectedly shut down by Microsoft as part of their recent cost-cutting.
This surprising move shocked the industry. It highlights the troubling fact that even creating a hit game beloved by fans doesn’t guarantee financial success or long-term survival in the competitive games landscape.
All games in the existing catalogue such as The Evil Within series, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the original Hi-Fi Rush game will not be affected by the agreement and will continue to be available on all current platforms.
