The show will go on for Los Angeles Comic Con, even in the midst of a pandemic.
In a statement titled ‘Why We’re Having a Show,” Chris DeMoulin, general manager of the LA Comic Con, said that while we’ve been keeping our distance and wearing our masks since March, we all want to reclaim a bit of normalcy that eludes us in these times.
“So, we asked ourselves—using all the information and precautions available to us, can we design and run a show in December that is BOTH safe AND fun for fans in the time of COVID?” DeMoulin said. “We put in months of planning, together with the LA Convention Center, and took guidance from State, LA County and Mayor’s Office guidelines. And our answer was—YES, WE BELIEVE WE CAN.”
There’s one important limitation: If the LA County Health Department says “no” at any time, the show will be cancelled or rescheduled.
The event is scheduled to take place from Dec. 11-13 at the LA Convention Center. There will be a live-streaming option for fans who want to watch from home.
The LA Comic Con team rented the entire LA Convention Center, which means almost double the space of past Comic Cons, they cut available tickets by more than 50 percent, and they tripled the number of entry points to reduce lines. These measures should reduce fan density by 75 percent.
Everyone involved—including fans, exhibitors, guests, and staff—will have to wear masks and remain six feet apart.
