B2B AI content creation platform Layer AI has closed a $6.5 million seed round to expand its team and further develop features to support mobile game developers.
The round was led by Tripledot co-founder Akin Babayigit’s new fund Arcadia and an investment vehicle connected to King co-founder Riccardo Zacconi. Other participants included existing investor e2.vc.
The suite of tools Layer AI has developed can be used to build and refine 2D and 3D images as well as video, with a goal of reducing production time for developers and scaling production. Its generative AI tools can be integrated directly into existing pipelines.
Scaling up
Layer AI’s team is comprised of experts from AI, games and art production fields, with its co-founders Volkan Gurel and Burcu Ozcengiz being veterans of MIT and Unity, respectively.
“At a time that everyone was creating point solutions, we saw that the best path to effectively apply AI models to games in the most custom, flexible and long-term way, was to have a multi-modal, tool-agnostic platform,” said Layer AI CEO Volkan Gurel.
“We are the only games-specific company delivering an enterprise-ready solution, and the response from the industry has been near immediate.
“We have quickly become the preferred partner for mobile game companies, and with our seed investment, and the support of our incredible investors Akin and Riccardo, our team will enhance our platform and expand to the broader games industry.”
Back in 2023, Layer AI raised $1.8m in seed funding towards enhancing its 2D image generation – before it expanded into 3D. Now, more than 200 studios have integrated Layer AI’s tools including Zynga, Tripledot, SciPlay, Huuuge Games and Machine Zone.
