The Destiny 2: Lightfall expansion is almost here, and while Bungie always hypes up every expansion as the biggest, bestest ever, they may actually be delivering with this one. Lightfall offers up some major story beats, as the long-teased big bad The Witness arrives, setting up the conclusion of the Light and Darkness saga that’s run through the entire series. Bungie has released a Destiny 2: Lightfall ViDoc, providing more teases about the expansion’s story, a deep dive into how the new Strand subclass works, and a better look at the cyberpunk-esque Neptunian city of Neomuna you’ll be visiting.
Destiny 2: Lightfall will launch alongside the free Season of Defiance (the 20th season overall). Season of Defiance takes the battle back to Earth, as you team up with characters like Petra and Devrim to repel an invasion by Calus’ forces. Of course, you can also look forward to new weapons, gear, and a number of quality-of-life improvements. You can check out all the new Destiny 2: Lightfall and Season of Defiance goodies in the ViDoc, below.
Don’t have time to sit through a 20-minute video? Here’s a quick rundown of core features included in Destiny 2: Lightfall…
“Our End Begins. Shattered glass glints in the starlight. Soldiers of the Shadow Legion battle with Guardians under the shadows of the fleet overhead—the Witness and its newest Disciple are here. Stand against overwhelming odds, soar through a gleaming cityscape, and master new powers to save humanity.”
- New Campaign – In a city under siege, find strength in your fellow Guardians as the end to all things approaches—the Witness is here. Arm yourself with new rewards and unlock new Dark powers to triumph in Lightfall’s unforgettable Legendary mode.
- New Destination – Travel to Neptune and discover a neon metropolis unlike any you’ve explored in Destiny 2. Meet the Cloud Striders, join the fight against the Shadow Legion, and prevent devastation in the technologically advanced secret city of Neomuna.
- New Power: Strand – Harness Darkness and pluck at the threads of consciousness with this new subclass. Flow through the city with newfound speed as you grapple from building to building. Every class can tap into this new element, but it’s up to you to create the perfect build. New Strand Supers include:
- Warlock Broodweaver: Needlestorm – Floating into the air, Warlocks conjure a wave of piercing Strand missiles. After the missiles strike their enemies, they detonate and reweave themselves into Threadlings that chase after nearby targets.
- Titan Berserker: Blade Fury – Titans weave large blades onto their arms while using light and heavy attacks. Light attacks allow Titans to quickly slash enemies and build energy for their heavy attack, in which they swing their blades to launch projectiles that suspend and incapacitate enemies on impact.
- Hunter Threadrunner: Silkstrike – Hunters weave a rope dart to strike down their enemies. The light attack throws the dart forward to strike a single enemy. Hitting an enemy with the dart deals bonus damage, and defeating enemies in this manner causes them to explode. The heavy attack swings the rope dart around a large area, damaging all nearby enemies.
Destiny 2 can be played on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. The Lightfall expansion and Season of Defiance launch on February 28.
