LightSpeed Studios is a leading name in game development, with studios worldwide. Today, they announced a brand-new state-of-the-art performance capture and virtual reality facility designed from the ground up to further the entertainment industry’s progress. This facility strives to further production globally, help local productions, and support jobs in motion capture, audio recording, video editing, virtual, and post-production.
Founded in 2019, LightSpeed LA is a subsidiary of LightSpeed Studios, which Tencent owns. LightSpeed Studios helped co-develop PUBG Mobile, one of the most popular live-service mobile video games currently available.
Currently, the first game in production to be created by LightSpeed Studios in LA is a triple-A game titled The Last Sentinel, with Troy Baker as the Performance Director for Last Sentinel. This is the first game developed using this innovative technology to make an open-world RPG set in futuristic Tokyo.
“This new facility is a significant milestone in our commitment to push the boundaries of creativity at LightSpeed Studios and LightSpeed L.A., and it is a perfect match for Last Sentinel, a game of immense narrative ambition, technical prowess, and visual fidelity,” said Steve C. Martin, who is Vice President of LightSpeed Studios and General Manager of LightSpeed L.A. Steve C. Martin is a games industry veteran, former RockStar Toronto employee who worked on Max Payne 3, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption 2.
In addition to Steve C. Martin, the studio has plenty of highly talented people working in it, with people from backgrounds of RockStar Studios, BioWare, 2K, and many more. The LightSpeed Studio performance capture facility has a whopping 38,000 cubic feet across two floors to work with and can house up to 35 staff to allow for the most advanced productions should it be deemed necessary.
“Working with LightSpeed Studios and the outstanding team at this facility is nothing short of thrilling. And I’m honored. The amount of skill, talent, thoughtfulness, experience, and care that went into the making of this studio is remarkable,” says Troy Baker, Performance Director of Last Sentinel.
In this facility, developers can access high-fidelity motion capture and virtual reality. They can also 3D print on-site, should several props be needed at any given time. Conference rooms and offices allow staff to participate in remote production.
While working on Last Sentinel, LightSpeed Studios is responsible for co-developing PUBG Mobile. They have helped develop over 50 games globally across multiple platforms and genres. They are full of passionate workers who are determined to help advance the science of art and entertainment.
