Zoom is making it easier to stream meetings to Twitch with new in-app integration. By linking accounts, users can now go live on Twitch directly from Zoom’s desktop client.
The move—one in a series of videoconferencing updates unveiled this week—aims to help customers “streamline the process of sharing content within their communities and extend their reach.”
To start streaming, open Zoom’s event controls, tap “Live on Twitch,” and log in or authorize access to your account. Provide a stream title and click “Go Live!”; a Zoom notification will confirm your session. “Account owners and admins can now allow hosts to livestream their meeting or webinar to Twitch directly rather than manually configuring the stream as a custom live streaming service,” a Zoom blog announcement said.
According to Zoom Support, users can expect an approximately 20-second video and audio lag between those watching on Zoom and participants on Twitch. You can also change the Zoom video layout to determine how folks see your livestream: Speaker view shows only one person, and switches between active speakers; in Gallery view, all participants appear on your screen as thumbnails.
As PCMag sister site Mashable pointed out, the new partnership, which requires Zoom’s desktop client, comes at a cost—literally. The feature is not available via Zoom’s free Basic tier, so you’ll have to pony up for one of the platform’s paid options, which start at $149.90 per year per license.
