A new Marvel’s Wolverine PS5 Unreal Engine 5 fan concept video has been released, fueling our hype for Insomniac’s upcoming title.
Late last year, we already covered a Wolverine UE5 imagining from Youtuber and Artist ‘TeaserPlay‘, and the artist has now released a brand-new concept video. Like last year’s imagining, this concept video shows the potential of a Wolverine title inside Epic’s new game engine. In this video we see a character resembling James ‘Logan’ Howlett (aka Wolverine) in a semi-open world with a Neo-Western setting. Developer Insomniac Games has confirmed that the upcoming PS5 title will feature a partly-open world.
Of course, this is merely a fan concept video, and although this video was made using Unreal Engine 5, Marvel’s Wolverine will run on Insomniac’s own proprietary engine. Still, we’re pretty sure that fans will appreciate this imagining.
Following the game’s reveal in 2021, Insomniac Games confirmed that Wolverine would be a “full-size” with a “mature” tone. A release date for Marvel’s Wolverine has yet to be revealed, but so far we do know that Insomniac is targeting a 2024-2025 release on PlayStation 5.
Now let’s talk about the announcement you probably weren’t expecting: Marvel’s Wolverine. Back when we were working on Marvel’s Spider-Man, there would be times where all of us—Insomniac, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel—would brainstorm together about the future beyond the web-slinger. And even in those early discussions, Wolverine continually came up as the character we’d be really stoked to work on together. Fast-forward a couple years and we’re suddenly standing in front of Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel formally pitching a PlayStation 5 game starring the adamantium-clawed Mutant! (Since you just saw the announce teaser, we can confirm that the pitch seemed to go pretty well.)
Aside from Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac is also hard at work on Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5. The sequel to 2018’s hit title for PlayStation 4 (which also received a remastered update on PS5) is slated for a release later this year. According to the game’s development team, Spider-Man 2 will be quite massive.
“I’ve still got a little bit to do”, Peter Parker’s voice actor Yuri Lowenthal said recently. “It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work. I know they’re confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing.”
We’ll update you as soon as more information about Insomniac’s Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 comes in.
