Toy giant Mattel will unveil its classic card game UNO for in-car games next week at the 2024 Gamescom in Germany.
Mattel will introduce the game – a whole new take on mobile gaming – alongside AirConsole and BMW Group at the AirConsole booth in Hall 10.1, Stand B028 – C029 during the event in Cologne.
The game will then be available on over 500,000 BMW and Mini vehicles through the AirConsole platform via an over-the-air update on August 21st.
Enhancing the in-car game experience
“We continue to increase the value of the overall digital experience for our customers,” said BMW Group SVP Stephan Durach. “Our partners AirConsole and Mattel are helping make in-car gaming into a new social experience, and I am thrilled to offer a family-favourite game like UNO for this exciting innovation.”
Mattel’s head of business development and digital gaming Erika Winterholler added: “UNO is perfect for in-car gaming because it’s highly engaging and brings people together. “Its simple rules are easy to learn and endlessly captivating, making it ideal for both short pit stops and extended play sessions.”
BMW Group first partnered with AirConsole to bring in-car games to users in 2022. By using phones as controllers and leveraging in-car touchscreens, platforms like AirConsole blend the convenience of mobile gaming with the immersive environment of a vehicle.
It’s a bold new step for mobile as more and more in-car tech becomes connected, transforming vehicles into communal gaming hubs, making gaming a shared experience on the road for multiple players.
