Games publisher Merge Games announced its closure last week in a statement posted to X (Formerly Twitter) after a 15-year run.
However, the initial post has now been removed from social platforms. Instead, a second statement has been released, sharing that Merge Games will be integrated with its parent publisher, Maximum Entertainment.
Earlier this year, Merge Games suffered layoffs and the closure of its Chelford office in England. In a statement given to Gamesindustry.biz, Maximum Entertainment CEO Christina Seelye said the layoffs were part of “cost-cutting measures” to serve the company’s goals and continue its work into 2025.

While the initial closure statement is no longer visible, many users saw the message before it was removed.
“After 15 years, Merge Games is closing down. Starting from a tiny, cramped attic and growing to a tight, multi-disciplined 22-person team, we’ve brought hundreds of indie gems to storefronts around the world and loved every moment of it,” Merge Games said in the statement.
Despite the post declaring the publisher’s closure, the second statement did not mention a closure but instead focused on its integration with Maximum Entertainment.
“After 15 years operating under Merge Games, we are now integrated within Maximum Entertainment. The games you’ve come to love, and those you look forward to, will now be coming from Maximum Entertainment,” The second statement reads.
While Maximum Entertainment will now handle Merge Games’ portfolio, the second statement does not indicate whether any of the original Merge Games team will be transferred over.
