Microsoft has reportedly warned Dev Channel members of the Windows Insider Program that it’s going to task them with testing even less stable builds of Windows 11 moving forward.
“We will soon be flighting early development builds in the Dev Channel,” the company said in an email that was published by MSPowerUser. “These builds may be less stable and won’t align with the version of Windows 11 expected to be available to the general public later this year.”
Microsoft also noted that Windows 11’s expansion to the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program makes this “a perfect time to reevaluate what flighting channel is right for you.” People no longer have to be on the cutting edge of Windows releases to test its next-gen update.
There will likely be advantages to sticking with the Dev Channel, of course, such as early peeks at what Microsoft has planned for Windows 11 in the months following its debut. (Or in the months between its official release and whenever it actually reaches existing systems.)
But now there are more options for Windows Insider Program members to use Windows 11 without having to put up with the extensive lists of known issues, surprising new bugs, and general unreliability associated with very early versions of operating system updates.
