For the first time, Microsoft’s Forza car-racing franchise is coming to Steam.
The latest game in the series, Forza Horizon 4, hits Steam on March 9. The release will also feature cross-play, ensuring you can race against millions of Forza gamers already on Xbox devices.
The news opens the door for more PC gamers to enjoy one of the best racing games on the market. The game was released in 2018 for both Xbox and Windows PC. However, Microsoft only chose to sell it via its own digital store, where it’s currently going for $59.99.
“Thanks to our community, gameplay in Forza Horizon 4 is more expansive than ever before with battle royale-inspired racing via The Eliminator, added rewards for stunning in-game photography with Horizon Promo, and reinvented community-created challenges with the recent arrival of Super7,” said the franchise’s developer, Playground Games.
The game is, indeed, a blast. We gave Forza Horizon 4 a near-perfect score for creating one of the best racing simulators you could dream of. The title currently includes over 600 cars you can unlock. All are also rendered in stunning graphics. In addition, the racing environments are more realistic now, thanks to in-game weather effects.
Unfortunately, any saves you make on the Steam version will be unique, hence you won’t be able to carry your game progression over to another platform, except for leaderboard stats and the racing clubs your profile has joined in.
When or if the other Forza games will be arriving on Steam was left unsaid. But Microsoft has already been releasing many of its biggest Xbox titles to the platform, including the Halo series and Gear of Wars 5. So it may only be a matter of time.
