Once again it’s that time of year where we all start feeling reflective and look back on the year just gone.
So to that end, we thought we’d ask our Mobile Mavens – a collection of games industry experts – a few questions about the year gone by, and what lies ahead in 2025. Here we asked:
What’s your New Year’s resolution and what resolution would you enforce on the industry?
Olga Loskutova
Chief Operating Officer
at GDEV Inc
My resolution is to bring the team together to keep pushing boundaries with innovative ideas while staying grounded in operational excellence. For the industry, I’d enforce a resolution to prioritise player trust and transparency, because no game can thrive without its community.
Roman Gurskiy
Managing Director
at Gem Capital
Break free from conventional thinking and embrace a more creative, outside-the-box approach. Often, the best solutions to tough challenges come when you ask “Why not?” instead of “Why?”.
This is my personal resolution, and I believe it’s just as important for our industry. Especially considering all the recent challenges we have faced.
Vladimir Nikolsky
CEO and Founder
at Utmost Games
I’m fully focused on strengthening Utmost Games and supporting the companies I’ve invested in or work with in various capacities. My personal resolution aligns closely with a message I’d like to share with the industry: we must value the people who create games.
As the year comes to a close, we’re witnessing yet another wave of layoffs — some widely publicised, others quietly handled. I firmly believe that every employee matters, and real success comes from achieving results together with the teams we build.
Valuing people is a form of investment in itself — one that shows through in genuine respect and care.
In the coming year, I hope to see larger companies place more emphasis on fostering better human relationships.
It’s time to move away from viewing teams as interchangeable resources and start recognising the individuals behind the work. After all, great games are built by great people, and that should never be overlooked.
Kimber Dall
Senior VP, People
at SciPlay
My resolution for 2025 is to take better advantage of being back in the office. Being surrounded by colleagues in-person helps me to maximise collaboration and fosters my creativity.
The games industry has had a challenging history with work-life balance, especially during crunch periods. If I could enforce any industry-wide resolution, it would be more robust benefit offerings in the space of mental health and wellness to take care of their teams.
Studios need to prioritise employee well-being by offering flexibility, mental health resources, and creating environments that encourage healthy work-life flow.
Álvaro Pinto
COO and Co-Founder
at Aptoide
I wish for the game industry in 2025 to thrive within a more open, transparent, and inclusive ecosystem, fostering innovation and diversity, and to deliver gamers unforgettable experiences that inspire, entertain, and connect like never before.
Jan Sommerfeld
COO
at Almedia
Investing into data-driven improvement of user engagement on our platforms and our customers’ games.
Closer relationships and deeper integration with game studios to deliver the best rewarded UA campaigns.
Rewarded UA can deliver great results if game studios are ready, providing lots of events data, adjusting their expectations and understanding differences to other UA sources, being technically ready to ensure proper tracking and avoiding misuse.
Christian Lövstedt
General Manager
at Midjiwan
To maintain the great culture and team we have, and by doing so, continue creating amazing things.
