Monopoly Go developer Scopely has taken the number one spot in this year’s Top 50 Mobile Game Makers list – revealed during Pocket Gamer Connects Helsinki 2024 – following a stellar year for the company.
Each year we release the Top 50 to shine a light on the industry’s best and brightest, showing off the movers and shakers shaping the sector.
Criteria for being in the list expands from the quality of new games released, live ops success and revenue performance to notable innovation, industry impact, business transformation, and future potential.
As we noted in the Top 50 list itself – could the number one spot really have been taken by anyone else in 2024?
Record-breaker
Seven years in the making, Monopoly Go launched in 2023 and has already surpassed $3 billion in revenue in record time.
As we explained: “The title successfully takes the globally popular classic Hasbro board game and merges it with mechanics popularised by Coin Master and some excellent social innovations. The result is a title that oozes high quality and fun, right down to the polish of the haptic feedback from each dice roll. It all comes together to form mobile gaming’s biggest hit of the past year.”
But Scopely isn’t ‘just’ a one hit wonder – it has a string of hits. Stumble Guys (which it acquired from Kitka Games) has over 50 million monthly players and more than 700m downloads. The company also has titles like Marvel Strike Force, Star Trek: Fleet Command and Yahtzee with Buddies Dice.
It’s a developer that’s managed to release a record-breaking hit in a challenging market, while excelling at live ops for titles like Stumble Guys.
At the Pocket Gamer Mobile Games Awards 2024, Scopely took home three accolades, including Best Publisher, Best Live Ops and Game of the Year.
It’s been quite the year for the team at Scopely – and it’s also been a long time in the making.
